The Federal Government is set to officially commence the dualization of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road on Monday, August 24, 2026, in what is expected to mark a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and improve transportation connectivity across the South-West.
The flag-off ceremony, being organised by the Federal Ministry of Works, will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Open Field of Legacy Estate, along the Idi Ayunre axis of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road in Oyo State.
The project follows the recent approval by the Federal Executive Council for the award of the contract for the dualisation of the strategic highway to JRB Construction Limited. The intervention is expected to address transportation challenges along the corridor while improving the movement of people, goods and services between Oyo and Ogun States and connecting communities beyond the two states.
The Federal Ministry of Works has described the project as part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with the dualisation expected to enhance road safety, reduce travel-related challenges, facilitate economic activities and strengthen the movement of agricultural produce and other goods along the route.
The Ibadan–Ijebu Ode corridor is regarded as an important transportation link within the South-West, serving communities and businesses while connecting Ibadan to Ijebu Ode and other major economic routes in the region. Upon completion, the project is expected to improve mobility and create additional opportunities for economic development along the corridor.
The Minister of Works, Senator (Engr.) Nweze David Umahi, is expected to attend the ceremony alongside senior government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Ahead of the ceremony, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has called on stakeholders and indigenes of Ibadanland to participate fully in the official flag-off.
In a statement issued on Friday, 21st August, 2026, the monarch urged members of the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan Royal Highnesses, Mogajis, Baales and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), among others, to turn out in large numbers for the occasion.
Oba Ladoja described the dualisation project as a major infrastructural intervention with the potential to transform transportation within the Ibadan axis, enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
The monarch further expressed optimism that the successful completion of the project would ease traffic movement, improve the travelling experience of motorists and residents, and strengthen the economic integration of communities along the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode corridor.
The Monday ceremony is therefore expected to bring together government representatives, traditional institutions, community stakeholders and residents as the Federal Government formally signals the commencement of the long-awaited road dualisation project.
